The central role of organic synthesis has been enriching nowadays from the aspect of material and life science. By virtue of significant advances in our understanding of factors that govern organic reactions and of increasingly growing instrumentation, the influence of organic synthesis has been extended to virtually all fields of science. A number of useful synthetic reactions have been developed in the 20th century, thereby leading to significant improvements in the total efficiency and performance of synthetic transformations. In the 21st century, synthetic chemistry should be greatly integrated to be a more powerful and environmentally-benign tool for creating the welfare of human life.
The objective of the present symposium (ISONIS-10) will be to overview ongoing progress in organic synthesis as well as applications in interdisciplinary fields and to stimulate future researches through the discussions from a wide range of viewpoints, such as basic concepts and principles, new methods and reactions, syntheses of new materials and medicinal agents, separation, and automated synthesis, and so on. ISONIS-10 is supported by JSPS Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research on Innovative Areas "Middle Molecular Strategy", which focuses the efficient synthesis based on reaction integration aiming the development of bioactive middle-size molecules (MW ca. 400-4000) such as natural products, glycans, peptides, and nucleic acid drugs.
